OK, so sometimes I screw up, badly. Friday, January 28 was the 20th anniversary of Jimmy Buffett opening the first Margaritaville in Key West. That he was going to throw a party there was well known, having been in the Key West newspaper several days beforehand. The party was 6 to 10, with very tight security, big beefy guards, blacked out windows, and so forth. It happens that the Deanna Bogart Band was playing there this week, so I knew some of the inner details, but also had been told this would be a non-event from the band's and my point of view, their show was to go as scheduled at 10:30. Believing this, and knowing I would not get in until the private party was over and presumably Jimmy had left, the only photo or video hardware I brought was my small Sony point and shoot...$15k of pro quality still and video equipment, and this was the best I could do. Stupid...

It turned out after the party Jimmy retired to the balcony in Margaritaville to have dinner with a few friends while Deanna played. Near the end of Deanna's first set, Jimmy came down and did a couple songs with the band. Sorry for the quality of the pics, but it was totally nuts. The stills were from before he began the songs, at that point I switched the camera to movie mode. You can grab the poor quality movie here. It isn't too clear, but near the end of Brown Eyed Girl, Jimmy spills water on Deanna's piano. He takes his shirt off to sop up the spill...

It was that kind of night!

The rest of the pictures from the band's shows at Margaritaville are here.
